Description of Course.

Management Information Systems is a three credit hour course designed to familiarize the student with some of the problems associated with managing an organization and how an information system and network will aid in the management process. The student will acquire the analytical tools necessary to diagnose, design, develop and implement a management information system within an organization.

Rationale.

Today's organizations are required to collect, process and disseminate large volumes of information. This has been brought about by their large size, rapid growth, diversity and widely dispersed operations. Many problems arise in handling an organization's informational requirements: data consistency, storage problems, multiple access from multiple users, etc. It is the goal of the MIS to provide all levels of management with the information necessary to operate the organization on a day-to-day basis and plan for a prosperous future in an ever-changing environment.
